Students at Proctor High School recently participated in an interactive financial literacy workshop hosted in partnership with Empower Federal Credit Union. During the session, students were given a real-life scenario that required them to create and manage a monthly budget. They allocated income across essential categories such as housing, transportation, utilities, groceries, insurance and entertainment, gaining firsthand experience in balancing needs versus wants.
The activity challenged students to think critically about financial decision-making, unexpected expenses and long-term planning. By working through realistic budgeting situations, students developed practical money-management skills that will support them as they transition into Adulthood. Our Career Exploration Specialist at Proctor High School provides monthly workshops designed to prepare students for employment, financial literacy and life beyond high school. These sessions equip students with the tools, confidence and knowledge they need to make informed financial and career decisions for their future.
