Passion Meets Purpose: Celebrating Utica Gem Michael Billins

Our next Utica Gem is Michael Billins, a dedicated member of the UCSD since 2019. After starting as a teaching assistant, Billions began an exciting new chapter this year as a special education teacher at JFK Middle School.

When he first started as a TA, Billins wasn’t certain that education was the right path for him. However, he quickly discovered his passion once he stepped into the right special education classroom. “It’s awesome teaching kids and seeing the light bulb go on every day,” he shared.

That passion led him to earn his degree, and he is now certified and board-approved to teach special education. For Billins, choosing Utica was an easy decision: “The diversity within the district is unmatched. In the classroom, you’ll find so many unique cultures and a wide range of abilities. It can be challenging, but it makes for an incredibly rewarding experience.”

We’re proud to celebrate Michael Billins as a true Utica Gem!
