The Utica City School District is proud to highlight one of its true gems: veteran art teacher Mamie Faga. With 17 years of dedicated service, Mrs. Faga continues to bring unmatched energy and heart to Columbus Elementary School every day.
Known for her high-energy instruction, creative flair and remarkable talent for organizing school events, she consistently transforms learning into an engaging and meaningful experience. Her pride in her students is clear the moment you walk through the halls, where vibrant displays of their artwork line the walls.
Colleagues describe Mrs. Faga as a collaborative and supportive teammate who is always eager to assist with interdisciplinary projects, special projects and schoolwide events. She routinely goes above and beyond for Columbus students and staff, taking on important leadership roles that help shape the school’s warm and positive culture. Among her many contributions, Mrs. Faga organizes the monthly Positivity Project and Student of the Month assemblies, celebrating the achievements and character strengths of Columbus scholars.
Her positive influence begins each morning at 9:05 a.m. when the school community gathers to hear her calm voice on the morning announcements. Through her daily guided meditation, yoga and affirmations, Mrs. Faga sets the tone for a mindful and encouraging start to the day. This month’s affirmation is a reminder for all of us:
“Remember, learning is a journey, not a destination.”
Congratulations to Mrs. Mamie Faga, this month’s Utica Gem! You embody the very best of our district.
